「オルガネラの動態から見た植物の生存戦略」
去る6月14日から17日に第53回NIBBコンファレンス“Dynamic Organelles in Plants” が岡崎ニューグランドホテルと岡崎コンファレンスセンターで開催されました。
今回のNIBBコンファレンスは特定領域研究「オルガネラ分化」と共催されたもので、植物オルガネラ分化において世界の第一線の研究をすすめる研究者が研究の現状を明らかにするとともに、本特定領域研究2年間の研究成果を議論することにより、今後の研究の方向性を明らかにすることを計画されたものです。
講演者は外国から13名、日本から21名であり、基調講演の福山大学浅田浩二先生による葉緑体における活性酵素の生成、
分解のメカニズムの解明をはじめとして活発な議論が行われました。
このコンファレンスで特に注目されたことは以下の通りです。
1. バイオイメージング技術の進展により、植物オルガネラの動態がより明確に捉えられるようになってきた。
2. こうしたオルガネラの動態が植物の高次機能、たとえば細胞死、発芽、免疫等に深く結びついている。
3. ポストゲノム解析としてオルガネラに特化した網羅的アプローチが推進されており、研究の飛躍的発展が見られる。
ほとんどの講演はイメージング技術を駆使したもので、数多くのムービー画像が直截にオルガネラの形態を明らかにしており、その進展の多様さ、詳細で巧妙なイメージング解析の工夫等は、この分野が非常に大きく変わりつつあることをしていた。
講演発表に加えて、90近くのポスター発表が企画され、ポスター発表者は各1分間の口頭による研究紹介が企画された。合計2時間にのぼる研究紹介とさらにそれに続く2時間のポスター発表は熱意に満ちたものであり、この分野の研究レベルが高く、今後さらに発展していくことを予感させるものであった。
今回のNIBBコンファレンスは電算機室で開発したWeb上での登録システムを用いており、200名を超える研究者が登録され、コンファレンス史上最大の参加者で行われることとなった。その結果、この分野の研究者のほとんどが参加するコンファレンスとなった。この運営に関して岡崎統合事務局、戦略室の方々、基生研高次細胞機構研究部門の方々、京都大学植物分子細胞生物学研究室の方々には大変お世話になりました。また、今回のNIBBコンファレンスは、日本学術振興会、文部科学省科学研究費補助金、植物科学基金、大幸財団、ノバルティス財団、基礎生物学研究所等からの援助のもとに開催されました。あわせて深くお礼申し上げます。（西村 幹夫）
