「内分泌撹乱化学物質研究の最新動向」
 
 本シンポジウムは、先端的な研究を行っている研究者を集め、最新の研究成果の34題の発表および30のポスターセッションから、「内分泌撹乱化学物質研究の最新動向」を理解し、化学物質の動物やヒトへの発生影響を分子レベルで理解するための研究の方向性を打ち出すことを目的に開催した。内分泌撹乱化学物質は、本来、農薬や工業用化学物質の中に、体に入ってホルモン類似作用あるいはホルモン阻害作用をするような物質が見出され、環境中にも存在し、野生動物への生殖に対して悪影響が懸念されたことに端を発した。内分泌撹乱化学物質問題は社会的な問題でもあるので、初日は、市民講座「よくわかる環境ホルモン」を開き、市民に、内分泌撹乱化学物質問題をわかりやすく解説した。科学的なセッションは、化学物質の「作用のメカニズム」を理解するために、化学物質の胎盤透過性、発生途上の動物はホルモン様物質に対して極めて感受性の高い時期が存在する臨界期の問題、性分化機構の動物種による多様性、体内での化学物質の代謝と動物種による違い、低用量問題、などに関して議論した。参加者は、大学院生やポストドク等の若い研究者を含め、延べ450名におよび規定の時間を超えた活発な討論が行われた。
