■Outline
Advice on research and a presentation will be given by the Progress Committee, which is organized for each student.
 
■Learning objectives
To develop the basic skills required for research activities including presentations.
 
■Grading policy
Grades will be evaluated by the supervisor based on performance in the research project, and poster/oral presentations.
 
■Lecture Plan
(1) Students have one-to-one interviews with each member of the Progress Committee semi-annually. Through discussions on the progress of their research, students will be given suggestions and advice about their future research plans.
(2) Students present their research through a poster presentation to a broad audience including all faculty members and receive feedback. The presentation is held in the 1st semester of the 2nd and 4th year, i.e. as Basic Biology Progress IIA and IVA (or 1st and 3rd year, i.e. as Basic Biology Progress IB and IIIB for students who enrolled in October).
(3) In one’s 2nd semester of the 2nd year, i.e. as Basic Biology Progress IIB, students in the 5-year doctoral program prepare a report about the progress of research that they have conducted up to that point as opportunities for practical training in the writing of scientific articles. On the occasion of the one-to-one interviews, students will receive feedback from the members of their Progress Committee and then revise their reports based on the advice provided during the interviews.
