今回は、小型魚類を用いた分子発生遺伝学に関するコースが開催されました。小型魚類であるゼブラフィッシュとメダカは、発生生物学分野を中心に注目を集めているモデル生物です。これらの魚は胚の透明性が高いため、発生の時間経過をそのまま観察することができます。さらに、突然変異体の大規模な収集や遺伝子機能阻害法などを基盤にした分子遺伝学的な研究にも広く使われています。特に、メダカは日本人研究者が中心となって確立したモデル生物であり、最近ではその全ゲノム塩基配列が解読されています。そこで、このコースでは、トランスジェニック個体の作成、メダカのゲノム情報を用いた突然変異体の解析、バイオイメージング技術を用いた細胞系譜の解析という、ゼブラフィッシュとメダカの実験動物としての利点を生かした講習が行われました。また、実習の合間を縫って、魚類を用いた最新の研究に関するレクチャーもあり、実習内容の理解をさらに深めることに役立ちました。これらの実習やレクチャーを担当していただいた講師の方々は世界の最先端で活躍されている方ばかりであり、質量ともに充実した国際的に見ても非常に高いレベルにあるトレーニングコースであったと自負しています。トレーニングコースを国際化した反響は思いのほか大きく、それは受講希望者の多さにも繋がっています。参加希望者が予想定員の3 倍を超え、本コースは国際的にも広がりのあるものとなっています。今後はコースをより充実させて行き、世界規模での研究の発展に貢献して行きたいと考えています。
