第２回NIBB-Princeton合同シンポジウム"Imaging and Quantitative Biology"が、2019年10月28日（月）〜30日（水）に岡崎コンファレンスセンターにて開催された。2010年から自然科学研究機構とプリンストン大学との学術連携協定に基づく学術交流と共同研究が始まり、2011年の第１回NIBB-Princeton合同シンポジウムが開催された。今回は、基礎生物学研究所、プリンストン大学だけでなく、自然科学研究機構 国際連携研究センター（IRCC）も主催として、また生理学研究所、分子科学研究所、生命創成探究センター、先端バイオイメージング支援プラットフォーム（ABiS）が共催として本合同シンポジウムの企画や運営にたずさわった。
本シンポジウムでは、分子から細胞、胚発生、個体や個体間の共生や感染、さらには脳の情報処理など非常に多岐にわたる生命現象を対象とした話題提供であったが、いずれも「イメージングと定量生物学」をキーワードに緩く結びついており、良くオーガナイズされたシンポジウムの編成であった。イメージング技術や光遺伝学を駆使した解析から１細胞シーケンシングや質量分析を使ったオミックス解析、さらには液-液相分離や機械学習といった最新の技術を余すことなく網羅しており、生命科学のダイナミックな進展をいやがうえにも感じさせる講演であった。ポスター発表では、自然科学研究機構の研究所やセンター、さらには他大学の研究者らによる活発な議論が行なわれた。プリンストン大学からは４名の研究者が参加し、さらに国内からの参加も含めた85名の参加者が集い、３日間にわたって熱い議論を交わした。自然科学研究機構とプリンストン大学との連携が大きく発展してきたことを十分に裏付けるものであった。
最後に、すべての参加者と、本シンポジウムの運営にあたった基礎生物学研究所 国際連携室、自然科学研究機構 国際連携研究センター、およびオーガナイザー研究室の方々に感謝する。
