Annual Plan for Research Guidance in the Basic Biology Program

Guidelines for Research Guidance

  1. 1) Guidance by Multiple Faculty Members
    The supervisors (the main supervisor and two additional supervisors) shall regularly monitor and guide the student's research progress.
  2. 2) The supervisors and progress advisors shall provide guidance, advice, and evaluation at the semiannual interviews with the student.
  3. 3) The faculty members shall provide advice and suggestions on the studentʼs presentation at the Basic Biology Progress Poster Presentation, where each student presents their research every other year.

Schedule of Research Guidance

Timing Contents of Research Guidance
April or October
1st year only
Assignment of the supervisors and progress advisors The supervisor (main and two additional) and progress advisors (two or three) are assigned according to the studentʼs research plan.
April or October Preparation of Research Plan/Research Guidance Plan Outlines (annually) The student and the supervisors collaborate to develop the annual Research Plan/Research Guidance Plan Outlines, based on the research plan prepared by the student.
April or October Planning a course of study (each semester) The student plans a course of study with the advice from the supervisors.
January to February, and July to August Basic Biology Progress Interviews (semiannually) The student holds one-to-one interviews with supervisors and progress advisors, presenting the progress of their research and future plans. Each faculty member in charge rovides guidance, advice, and evaluation.
August
2nd and 4th year (1st and 3rd year for students enrolled in Oct.)
Basic Biology Progress Poster Presentation The student presents their research every other year through a poster presentation to a broad audience, including all faculty members, and receives advice and suggestions.
