From February 24th to 25th, 2026, five professors and one administrative manager from the Research School of Chemical Biology (KoRS-CB) and Collaborative Research Center 1756 (CRC 1756) at the University of Konstanz visited NIBB.
On the morning of the 24th, the delegation toured the UVSOR Synchrotron Facility and the Akiyama Laboratory at the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS). In the afternoon, they visited the Okazaki Large Spectrograph and Trans-Scale Biology Center (Optics and Imaging Facility, and Trans-Omics Facility at NIBB. The visit involved productive discussions regarding not only the management and operation of the advanced equipment but also the specific research being conducted at these sites.
Subsequently, the NIBB - CRC 1756/KoRS-CB International Exchange Seminars were held on the evening of the 24th and the morning of the 25th. The seminars began with overview presentations of NIBB, KoRS-CB, and CRC, followed by research presentations from both institutions. The sessions covered a wide range of cutting-edge research, including RNA-protein interactions and complexes, material quantification using mass spectrometry, intracellular component dynamics using various spectrometers, and cell cycle and chromatin regulation. These presentations prompted lively and insightful discussions among all participants.
On the 25th, further discussions were held regarding the conclusion of the formal partnership agreement procedures, as well as specific future collaborative activities. Both parties agreed to deepen their relationship, focusing on the exchange of graduate students and the sharing of information related to research techniques and academic meetings. Although the two institutions operate in different primary fields—Basic Biology and Chemical Biology—we share a common focus on observing the dynamics of intracellular components. Given the complementary research techniques, further collaboration is highly anticipated.
