Call for participants interested in the 6th NIBB International Practical Course and the 1st NIBB - TLL Joint International Practical Course "Developmental Genetics of Medaka IV"

The 6th NIBB International Practical Course and the 1st NIBB - TLL Joint International Practical Course “Developmental Genetics of Medaka IV” will take place as an NIBB international practical course jointly with Temasek Life Science Institute (TLL) in Singapore. This is an excellent opportunity to learn both the basic technologies and cutting-edge experimental skills being used with Medaka including transgenesis, sperm cryo-preservation, screening of the TILLING library, infrared laser-evoked gene operator (IR-LEGO) for controlling gene expression, outline of ENU mutagenesis and so on.

The usability of Medaka as a research material has drawn increasing attention due to the availability of medaka biological resources such as many useful strains like see-through medaka, cDNA/BAC/Fosmid clones, these can be searched and identified in an in silico manner along with medaka draft genome sequences. As a model organism Medaka is not only complimentary to Zebrafish but it is also uniting existing fields of biology such as endocrinology, toxicology, ethology and evolutionary biology. This is allowing the exploration of new fields of biology based on the infrastructure of Medaka genomes and genetics. Guest speakers will discuss these emerging topics and new fields of biology, and informal interaction among participants will facilitate further expansion of research networks.
