Haworthia cooperi var. obtusaの葉は先端部以外は地中に埋まって砂漠の暑さを避けている。葉の表面の７から15層くらいの細胞のみに葉緑体が発達し、葉の先端部と内側の細胞は透明。葉の先端部の「窓」から入った光が葉の中と通り辺縁の細胞に到達し光合成を行う。
Light enters from the leaf window at the distal tip to reach to photosynthetic tissue inside the leaves (Krulik 1980).
