RESEARCH: Mechanisms and evolution of plant movement (2) Molecular Mechanisms of Memory of Dionaea muscipula leaves

Mr. Hiraku Suda (graduate student in SOKENDAI [The Graduate University for Advanced Studies]) with advices of Dr. Hiroaki Mano and Yosuke Tamada.

The venus fly trap Dionaea muscipula closes its trap when sensory hair is mechanically stimulated two times within approximately 20 seconds. This indicates this plant memorize the first stimulus at least for 20 seconds. A grauduate student Mr. Hiraku Suda succeeded to transform Dionaea muscipula and now investigates the molecular mechanisms of the memory system.
