雌蕊頂端部とそれに接する花弁によって自分の花粉が花筒の中に入り自家受粉するのを防いでいる。花糸の一部が膨らみ、鱗翅目昆虫の口吻のガイドとなっている。口吻についた他の個体の花粉は、口吻をぬくときに、雌蕊頂端の下側にある柱頭に付着する。そして、柱頭よりも先端部分から分泌される粘液で濡れた口吻に自分の花粉を付けて、他の個体に送粉してもらう。
