RESEARCH: Mechanisms and evolution of plant movement

Plants move. Leaves of most plants change their positions between daytime and night, although the adaptive significance of nyctinastic-leaf movement is not known. Leaves of Venus fly trap and trigger plants rapidly move to capture plants and pollination, respectively. Touching stimuli and sounds respectively make Mimoza pudica and Desmodium motorium leaves move, although their adaptive significance is controversial. We investigate the mechanisms and evolution of such movement. Graduate students are welcome to join.
