The 67th NIBB Conference / The 6th Quest for Orthologs Meeting

Quest for Orthologs

Message

We are pleased to announce that the 67th NIBB conference / the 6th Quest for Orthologs (QfO) consortium meeting will be held from July 31 to August 2 in Okazaki, Japan. The theme of this conference will be the basics of comparative genomics from theoretical and practical approaches.

Thanks to the advancement of sequencing technologies, genome sequencing has been expanded to a broad range of organisms including non-model organisms, and comparative genomics is becoming a key approach in various biological studies. Orthology inference (i.e. distinguishing orthologs from paralogs among homologs) is a fundamental issue in comparative genomics, and many methods and databases related to this field have been developed so far. The QfO is an open community of researchers interested in the development and/or application of orthology inference methods. Since the first meeting held in 2009 in Hinxton, United Kingdom, the consortium has held a meeting every two years to discuss various common subjects including benchmarking for evaluation of different methods, preparation of a reference sequence set for benchmarking, and data formats for representing orthology/paralogy relationship as well as presenting the latest advancement of orthology methods and/or resources.

At this conference, we will focus on orthology inference as a basis of comparative and evolutionary genomics for the purpose of stimulating in-depth discussion between theoretical/methodological developers and practical biologists working in this field. The topics will include methodological and conceptual development of orthology inference and its application to integrative database construction, large-scale evolutionary analysis and practical genomic research including non-model organisms and metagenomics.

We encourage the many researchers who are interested in this important subject to join us for this meeting. We are looking forward to seeing you in Okazaki.
