A single whorle of four tepals opposite to stamens is formed in a flower of Viscum album<\/em> subsp. coloratum<\/em> of the Santaleceae. The flower is subtended by a pair of two bracts (white arrows). Which petals or sepals did evolve to the tepals?<\/p>\n

Both a calyx and a corolla with five petals opposite to stamens are formed in Loranthus of the Loranthaceae, suggesting that tepals in Viscum and Scurrula are homologous to petals (Endress 1994).<\/p>\n
