On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great pleasure to inform you that the “Genetics and Imaging of Medaka and Zebrafish” will take place as the 9th NIBB international practical course and jointly as the 4th NIBB-TLL international practical course organized by NIBB and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) in Singapore.

The course will focus on learning the standard skills and up-to-date techniques using small fish models. This is an excellent opportunity to learn genome editing techniques (knock-out and knock-in) in both medaka and zebrafish systems, the highly efficient phiC31 transgenesis system using medaka, cell labeling and lineage analysis using infrared laser-evoked gene operator (IR-LEGO) for controlling single-cell/local gene expression, and cryopreservation of sperm for long term storage of any medaka fish lines.

Participants of this course will learn the advantages of using both medaka and zebrafish in experiments, and meet and exchange information regarding their use.

Guest speakers will discuss these emerging topics and new fields of biology, and informal interaction among participants will facilitate further expansion of research networks.

In addition, we have the 22nd Japanese Medaka and Zebrafish Meeting* during this course (on August 20th and 21st). We strongly recommend that participants attend this meeting and prepare poster presentations.

We hope you take this opportunity to take part in this enjoyable and informative event!

Kiyoshi NARUSE (NIBB)

*The Organizing Committee strongly recommends all selected applicants present their own research at the 22th Japanese medaka and zebrafish meeting as poster presenters. The registration fee for the meeting will be covered by the Japanese Medaka and Zebrafish Committee, except the meal fee (4,000JPY) for the meeting dinner. Also NIBB’s large format printer will be available for printing out your poster. Please visit the meeting website for more details.
