Welcome to the World of Small Fish. On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great pleasure to inform you that gDevelopmental Genetics of Zebrafish and Medaka IIIh will take place as an NIBB international practical course. This is the first time NIBB has been able to offer this exiting and informative program based on small fish since being appointed as a Core Bioresource Center for Medaka research by the Japanese government. Therefore this is an excellent opportunity to learn both the basic technologies and cutting-edge experimental skills being used with Medaka. The usability of Medaka as a research material has drawn increasing attention due to its full genome sequence recently becoming available. As a model organism Medaka is not only complimentary to Zebrafish but it is also uniting existing fields of biology such as endocrinology, toxicology, ethology and evolutional biology. This is allowing the exploration of new fields of biology based on the infrastructure of Medaka genomes and genetics. Guest speakers will discuss these emerging topics and new fields of biology, and informal interaction among participants will facilitate further expansion of research networks. Minoru TANAKA This practical course is supported by the National Institute for Basic Biology (NIBB) with help from the Japanese National BioResource Project (NBRP) gMedakah. International flight fare (not domestic) and accommodation costs will be funded for foreign graduate students. |
